Last night I attended the opening of a memorial exhibition of the work of Jan Groover. It was held at SUNY Purchase, where she taught for many years. Although I studied with her at School of Visual Arts, her students from several institutions have found each other and have formed a tight community over the years. It was great fun to see and connect with everyone.
My new video work (attached below), Composition 117, was done in homage to both Jan Groover and Barbara Crane, two greats in the field. I did this work when I got back from residency in Jan. This is not my thesis work. I am still working on the Hudson River for thesis. I made this work on a whim, just to kind of distance myself a bit form the River series and to make something new. More on Hudson River project soon. I am working out the specifics on that, and of course, the written thesis.
